Re: Ensuring Chicken Safety While on Vacation Advice Needed!

Chickens are adaptable! They might not love the confinement, but they'll be safe. I'd go with securing the porch area,it's only for a week.

Re: Why Are My Hens Laying Long, Narrow Eggs?

Lately, a few of my hens have been laying eggs that are longer and more narrow than usual. The eggs seem healthy otherwise, but Im wondering if this shape is normal or if it could point to a health issue, nutritional imbalance, or something else. Has anyone else seen this in their flock? Should I ...

Re: 8-Month-Old Marans Still Not Laying

Do you free-range? Sometimes young hens will lay in hidden spots instead of the nest boxes. Might be worth checking around just in case!

Re: How to Keep Snakes Away from My Coop?

I'd try snake repellent granules or sulfur around the perimeter. Also, a raised coop floor can make it harder for snakes to get in.

Re: Clipped Wings, but My Hens Are Still Flying Over the FenceWhat Went Wrong?

A 7-foot fence is impressive for an escape! Some birds just have stronger flight instincts. If clipping again doesn't work, try soft netting or even planting bushes along the fence to make takeoff harder.

Re: From Struggling Flock to Thriving Chickens: My Success Story with Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae

I love that BSFL doesn't just benefit chickens but also other livestock and even fish! I've fed them to my ducks and quail, and they all go crazy for it. It's a high-protein, calcium-rich treat that fits perfectly into any sustainable feeding plan.

Re: Desperate for Help My Rooster Wont Stop Attacking Me!

Since you mentioned he's better with your husband, he might see you as a lower-ranking flock member and feel the need to challenge you. Some people have had success “resetting” an aggressive rooster by placing him in a large dog crate within the coop for a few days, which can disrupt his dominance ...

Re: Introducing Chicks to a Broody Hen: Any Tips for a Second Attempt?

I tried introducing chicks to a first-time broody once, and it took three attempts before she finally accepted them! Be patient, and don't give up after one try. The nighttime method is probably your best bet, and if she doesn't seem to be bonding, I'd recommend removing the chicks and keeping them ...

Re: Breeding My Own Meat Birds Whats the Best Cross?

If you're looking for a solid meat bird cross, a Cornish rooster over a White Rock hen is still a great choice. They grow slower than commercial Cornish Cross but will give you a decent-sized bird with good meat quality.

Re: Older Chickens Eyebrow Area Drooping, Should I Be Concerned?

This happened to my rooster last year, and it was due to mild sinus congestion. Try listening closely when she breathes,if you hear any wheezing or rattling, it might be a mild respiratory issue.
