Re: Concerned About Chick with Eyes Sealing Shut Every Morning
Since the issue happens overnight, check the humidity and ventilation in your brooder. Too dry can lead to crusty eyes, while too damp can encourage bacterial growth. Also, consider switching to a softer bedding type if you're using pine shavings, as the dust may be irritating her. If she keeps ...

Re: Secure Cover and Barrier Options for Quarantine Run
If you want a lightweight cover, you might try deer netting or poultry netting instead of a soccer net. Still, predators could get through it if they really try.

Re: Can Slightly Chlorinated Water Improve Hatch Rates?
I had the same question a while back! I tested a mild chlorine solution (1-2 ppm) in my incubator water and didn't notice a difference in hatch rate, but I did feel like it reduced that musty incubator smell. However, I also made sure my ventilation was good to avoid any chlorine buildup.

Re: Stubborn Hen Wont Lay in the Coop, Whats Going On?
You could try placing straw from the pot into the coop's nesting boxes. Sometimes the familiar scent helps them transition to a new laying spot.

Re: Avoiding the Rookie Mistake: Chicken Feed Storage Woes
I use a combination of metal bins and a dehumidifier in my storage area to keep the feed dry and fresh. Works like a charm!

Re: Mottled Java Chicks Growing Solid Black, Is This Normal?
My experience with mottled breeds is that they can be unpredictable. I had one hen stay black for nearly a year before suddenly developing beautiful white markings. Genetics can be tricky!

Re: Could My Pine Shavings Be Making My Chickens Sick?
I always use hemp bedding because it's super absorbent and low in dust. If you can get some, it might be worth a try to see if your chickens improve.

Re: Concern Over Chicken Walking Oddly After Pooping. Could It Be Constipation?
Poor hen, I'm glad she's better now! Yes, chickens can definitely get constipated, especially after stress or if they're not getting enough fiber in their diet. You did the right thing by soaking her and giving her time to recover. To prevent constipation, you can add fiber-rich foods like oats ...

Re: Introducing Chicks to a Broody Hen: Any Tips for a Second Attempt?
This has happened to me before, and I found that after the first rejection, it's usually better to leave the chicks under the broody overnight when she's calmer. If she's still rejecting them after that, I would pull the chicks and continue raising them separately, but it's worth trying at least ...

Best Deworming Methods for Large Free-Range Flock Without Handling Each Chicken
Hello everyone,
I have a flock of around 60 free-range chickens, and I've noticed a few of them showing signs of having worms. After a heavy rain washed away some of the poop they were hiding in, I even saw worms in the exposed droppings. Since I have such a large flock and it would be difficult to ...
