Re: Why Does My Hen Keep Sticking Her Head Under the Other Chickens?

If feet warmth is a concern, try adding more roost space so everyone can spread out more comfortably.

If she struggles to find her nest, consider blocking off the other nesting boxes. That might help her stay on track.

Overfeeding can lead to obesity, especially in less active breeds. Stick to measured portions and avoid giving too many treats, which can unbalance their diet.

You could install 5' and add a simple angled extension at the top later if needed. That way, you keep the look you want but have a fix ready if they turn into escape artists.

If you're seeing no movement, it's possible those eggs aren't viable. But if there's any sign of life, a small air hole near the air sac might give them a fighting chance. Just be sure not to break into the membrane too soon, or you could cause more harm than good.

Re: Concern About Overusing Composted Chicken Manure in the Garden

Chicken manure is very high in nitrogen, and it's easy to over-apply. I'd recommend monitoring your garden closely over the next few weeks. If the yellowing continues or gets worse, you might want to dilute the area with some compost or other organic material.

Since they're consistently choosing the same outdoor roost, maybe try removing or blocking it off in the evenings to encourage them back into the coop.
