Re: Planning My Breeding Pens Best Rooster & Hen Combos for Unique Hybrids?

If you're looking for a mix of productivity and novelty, try a Rhode Island Red rooster over Olive Egger and White Leghorn hens. You'd get hardy, high-producing hybrids with a variety of egg colors!

Re: How to Keep Snakes Away from My Coop?

Some people swear by using natural snake repellents like cinnamon, sulfur, or clove oil around their coops. I haven't tried it, but it might be worth a shot.

Re: Clipped Wings, but My Hens Are Still Flying Over the FenceWhat Went Wrong?

My Marans are escape artists too! I've found that clipping works, but only if I trim far enough back. Try reclipping and also watch for any roosts or objects they might be jumping from.

Re: Chicks Keep Getting Soaked, Waterer Mystery!

Could there be an air pressure issue with the container? If air is getting trapped, it might be releasing all the water suddenly.

Re: Hen Suddenly Weak and Unbalanced Need Advice!

Hey everyone,

I need some help! Tonight, when I went to close up the coop, I found one of my hens by the door, not moving, with her wings slightly spread out. At first, I feared the worstmaybe an attackbut thankfully, she was still alive.

Constantly Peeping Chick Seeking Attention or Something Wrong?

Im raising my first batch of chicks and have six little ones, all about four days old. Five seem happy and active, but one chick constantly peeps. It eats, drinks, poops, and interacts with the others, so I dont see any obvious signs of distress.

The peeping stops when I enter the room, and the ...

Re: Counting Down to Spring Hatch Excited for These Breeds!

I love that you're getting Cream Legbars! They're excellent layers, and the blue eggs are always a fun addition to the basket. I've noticed that they can be a bit skittish as chicks but grow into really inquisitive birds. If you handle them regularly, they'll warm up to you quickly. Also, be ...

Desperate for Help My Rooster Wont Stop Attacking Me!

Im at my wits end with my rooster and need serious advice. He has attacked me multiple times, often violently, to the point of injury. Its gotten so bad that he actually waits outside my car and ambushes me as soon as I step out. He chases me to the door and attacks from behind, and he has no ...

Re: Raising Layers & Meat Birds Together Brooder Setup Advice Needed

You'll need a big brooder,8x8 is a better choice than 6x6. Cornish Cross will grow *fast*, and overcrowding leads to health issues. A good compromise is to raise them together for the first two weeks and then move the layers once the size difference becomes obvious.

Re: Best Practices for Storing Eggs Before Incubation and Ideal Temperature for Setting

As far as storing eggs before incubation goes, I recommend storing them no longer than 7 days, and they should be kept at a cool room temperature (around 55°F). Be sure to turn them regularly to maintain their viability. If you're going to incubate the eggs, allow them to warm to room temperature ...
