Re: Is My Pasture Safe for Chickens & Geese?
I'd recommend overseeding with a mix that includes clover, wheatgrass, and chicory, these are great for poultry. If you're unsure about what's currently growing, take a walk through the pasture and look for anything that stands out as unusual. Most toxic plants tend to have distinct leaves or flowers ...

Re: When to Start Turning Shipped Eggs in the Incubator?
I just set some shipped eggs in my incubator and checked the air cells before placing them. Some of the air cells looked a bit loose, but none were completely detached or rolling around. Since they were shipped, I placed them upright with the air cells facing up and left the automatic turner off ...

If she free ranges, she might have picked up something irritating, like a tiny bug or dust in her throat. Offer some wet mash to see if it helps her clear it out. Sometimes, it's just a temporary reaction.

Re: Worming a Large Mixed Flock Routine or Only When Needed?
I personally prefer natural preventatives, like fermented feed, garlic, pumpkin seeds, and apple cider vinegar in the water. They may not completely eliminate worms, but they help keep the parasite load low. That said, if I ever see clear signs of a heavy worm burden, such as weight loss, lethargy ...

When a Chick Turns Into a Tiny Terror What Should I Do?
We have a free-ranging flock, and one of our hens recently hatched ten adorable chicks. For the first week, we kept them in an enclosure, but for the past 2.5 weeks, theyve been roaming with their mom, learning to forage, dust bathe, and explore their surroundings. Everything seemed perfectuntil ...

Re: Breeding My Own Meat Birds Whats the Best Cross?
One thing to consider is feed conversion efficiency. Cornish Cross birds are bred to maximize feed use, but most other crosses will take more time and food to reach size.

Re: Understanding the Impact of Humidity on Developing Chicks During Incubation
One thing to keep in mind is that ideal humidity levels can vary depending on your location. If you live in a very humid climate, you may not need to add as much water to the incubator.

Re: What Happens If Chickens Eat Too Many Fly Larvae?
I think they'll be okay, but I would limit how often they get that much at once. Too many fatty foods can cause issues like obesity, and you want to make sure they're getting a good balance of nutrients. Hopefully, they won't overdo it next time!

Re: Best Deworming Methods for Large Free-Range Flock Without Handling Each Chicken
We had the same issue with a large flock, and the best method we've found is using a deworming powder mixed into their feed. It's simple to do, and most chickens will eat it without issue. Just make sure they have access to fresh water at all times.
