Re: How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes in the Coop?

Mosquitoes are worst at dawn and dusk. If possible, keep the coop more enclosed during those times and improve ventilation with fans or mesh screens.

Re: Hen Lethargic with Bloody Droppings

I'm really worried about my hen and could use some advice. She has been acting lethargic all day, standing in one spot, looking fluffed up, and not engaging much with the rest of the flock. She is usually active and alert, so this is a big change in behavior.

A little while ago, I checked on her ...

First-Time Incubation Confusion Air Sacs in the Wrong Place?

Hi everyone,

This is my first time incubating eggs from my 9-month-old hens, and Im a little confused about what Im seeing during candling. I set 30 eggs in the incubator after collecting them over the course of a week. I stored them pointy-end down before incubation and placed them the same way in ...

Re: Finding the Right Height for My Flock

My hens ignore my 4' fence because they're happy where they are. If your setup is engaging enough, they might not even try to fly out.

Are you using construction sand or play sand? Coarser sand drains better and doesn't clump as much, which might improve your experience.

Have you considered growing some of their feed? Things like duckweed, mealworms, or even sprouted grains can help reduce costs.

Re: Hen Losing Feathers & Signs of Injury Need Advice!

Hello everyone,

Were new to chicken keeping and could use some help diagnosing an issue in our flock. Our hens are around 7-8 months old and all actively laying. At first, we thought we were dealing with bullying, but now were not so sure. One particular hen seems more passive than the others and ...

Re: Safe Treats for Newly Hatched Chicks?

I avoid treats for at least the first week, but once they're a little older, tiny bits of finely chopped fruit or veggies can be a fun addition.

Re: Bantam Tapping Her Feet What Could It Mean?

It could just be a harmless quirk! Some chickens develop little habits when they're in a new environment. Keep an eye on her, but if she's eating, drinking, and acting normal otherwise, she's probably fine.
