You're right to keep it in lockdown , keeping humidity stable will help prevent membrane shrink-wrapping. Listen for consistent peeping and watch for external pipping. If ...

My Lavender Brahma (LB) has this habit of sticking her head under other chickens when theyre roosting like a chick trying to get under a broody hen. It started last winter when she was young, and ...

Re: Fresh Herbs in the Brooder Any Suggestions?

Parsley and cilantro are great choices! They're nutrient-rich, and my chicks love nibbling on them. Just introduce them gradually to see how they react.

Re: New to Chickens, Looking for Tips!

Don't stress too much, chickens are hardy, and they'll teach you as much as you teach them. Just make sure they have food, water, and a safe place to sleep, and the rest will fall into place. Welcome to the flock!166 I've never tried chlorinated water, but I'd be cautious. Even low levels might ...

Re: How Many Chickens Can I Keep in My Coop? Need Advice!

Your coop and run setup should work fine for 4 chickens, especially considering the additional space for free-range time. If you want to add a few more, I'd recommend going for 5-6 maximum to avoid crowding. You don't want them fighting over space.

Re: Finding the Right Height for My Flock

I have a 5' fence, and my flightier hens definitely tested it. I ended up using bird netting over the top. Not the prettiest solution, but it worked!
