Every night, my coop is absolutely swarmed with mosquitoes, and my poor hens are miserable. Ive noticed them getting really irritated, and Im worried about the risk of diseases like avian pox.
Ive tried keeping the area as dry as possible, but the mosquitoes still seem relentless. Does anyone have any effective methods to keep them away? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Mosquitoes are worst at dawn and dusk. If possible, keep the coop more enclosed during those times and improve ventilation with fans or mesh screens.

Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, so eliminating their breeding spots is the first step. Check for puddles, clogged gutters, or wet bedding in and around the coop. Empty and clean waterers frequently, and consider adding mosquito dunks to any water sources that can't be removed. You can also improve airflow inside the coop with vents or fans to keep mosquitoes from settling in. If your coop is near a pond or other unavoidable water source, try adding mosquito-eating fish like gambusia. A combination of reducing standing water, increasing air circulation, and adding natural deterrents should help keep the problem under control.

A well-ventilated coop is key! Mosquitoes prefer still air, so adding vents or a fan can help. Citronella plants around the coop also deter them naturally.

Neem oil, when diluted properly, can be sprayed around the coop to repel mosquitoes. Just be careful not to spray directly on the birds.

Guinea fowl and Muscovy ducks are natural mosquito predators. If you already have ducks, try letting them forage in mosquito-heavy areas. Another option is using poultry-safe insect-repellent sprays. Some essential oil-based sprays (like diluted lemon eucalyptus) can help reduce mosquito activity around the coop. Just be sure to use products safe for birds and avoid direct application on their feathers.
