Could there be an air pressure issue with the container? If air is getting trapped, it might be releasing all the water suddenly.

Ive used the same standard chick waterer for multiple broods without issues, but this time my 4-day-old chicks keep ending up soaked! The waterer is upright but completely empty, and I cant figure out how theyre spilling it. Its happened four times now! I even tried switching containers and taping it down, but no luck.

Also, their feathers are matted with food and droppings after each soaking.

Should I bathe them or just let them dry naturally? Any ideas on why this is happening and how to stop it?

Sounds like they might be stepping into the trough and splashing the water out. A larger waterer or adding small pebbles to the trough might help.

Have you checked if there's a small crack or leak in the waterer? Sometimes tiny cracks cause slow leaks that go unnoticed.
