If you want them to bond with you early, taking them young makes sense. The hen won't grieve, just refocus on her remaining chicks.

Hens follow their instincts, and their primary concern is protecting the chicks they still have. If you take two, she might look for them at first, but with four left to care for, she won't be distressed for long. The chicks, however, will need to adjust to being without their mother. Make sure they have warmth and security, and they should thrive in your care.

As long as they're warm, fed, and safe, they'll be fine. The hen will still have plenty of chicks to care for.
