If you had to choose just one breed as the best egg layer in your flock, which one would it be? I know Rhode Island Reds are powerhouse layers, but Id love to hear about other breeds that stand out. Do you prefer high-production breeds, or do you go for a balance of personality and egg output? Bonus points if they lay well in the winter too!

Lets hear your experiences. Whats your top choice and why?

If you want color variety, Easter Eggers are a solid choice! Mine lay almost daily and the blue/green eggs are a bonus.

Speckled Sussex lay reliably and are some of the friendliest birds you can get. Mine keep up production even in shorter daylight months. Plus, their feather pattern is stunning!

If you're after egg color and production, Olive Eggers are a fun choice! They lay a good number of beautiful green eggs and have great personalities.

If you want a great balance of productivity and personality, go with Buff Orpingtons. They lay well, even in winter, and are some of the friendliest chickens around. Mine follow me everywhere!

I love my Sussex hens. They're dependable layers, friendly, and keep up egg production even in cooler months.

Rhode Island Reds are hard to beat! They're consistent, hardy, and lay plenty of large brown eggs. Definitely a top contender.

Australorps all the way! My girl laid 300+ eggs her first year. Plus, they're calm and easy to handle.

My ISA Browns have been fantastic! They started laying early and have given me an egg almost every day since. If production is your priority, they're a great choice!

For me, Leghorns take the top spot! They lay nearly every day, even in the heat, and their white eggs are perfect.
