Hi everyone,
I’m in the process of planning my first chicken coop.
One thing I’m worried about is how to keep it from smelling bad.
I’ve heard that odor can be a big issue, especially in smaller backyards.
What are the best ways to design a coop to stay clean and odor-free?
Are there certain materials, bedding types, or ventilation setups that work best?
I want to make sure my chickens are happy and my neighbors don’t complain.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're dealing with a smaller space, I suggest using a poop board under the roosts. You can clean it daily, which helps a lot with odors. For bedding, Ive found that using hemp is great for both absorption and odor control.

Keep in mind the importance of cleaning. If you make a habit of cleaning out the coop regularly (at least once a week), it will prevent odors from accumulating. Ventilation and quality bedding are only part of the solution.
