As you know, I’m already working on building a chicken coop, and I need some help picking the best material for the floor. I know a lot of people use wood for their coop floors, but I was wondering if anyone uses something else, maybe something that’s easier to clean?

What kind of floor do you have in your chicken coop? Does it work well for you? Is it easy to keep clean?

I decided to keep my coop floor natural and use a dirt floor. I do the deep litter method, where I add fresh bedding (like pine shavings or straw) on top of the old bedding and let it break down over time. It’s easy to manage, keeps the chickens warm in winter, and even gives me great compost for the garden! Just make sure the coop is predator-proof around the edges to stop anything from digging in. It’s a simple and budget-friendly option!

I have a wood floor with a heavy-duty rubber mat over it. Super easy to clean. I just have to hose them off when they get messy. Its durable and cheap!

At first, I started with a wire floor, but it didn’t work well for me. It was hard to walk on, and the hens didn’t seem comfortable at all. I switched to a dirt floor, and it’s been so much better!
