Re: Why Is My Rooster Overmating Certain Hens, and How Can I Help Them?
A high-energy rooster often needs more hens or more space. Try giving him distractions like treats or perches to help redirect his attention.

Re: Concern About Overusing Composted Chicken Manure in the Garden
I'd be cautious with chicken manure if you notice yellowing. It can be too rich in nitrogen for delicate plants, especially fruit trees. I've had success applying smaller amounts and letting the compost break down more before applying it to the garden.

Re: Inconsistent Laying in My Rhode Island Reds
Rhode Island Reds are usually pretty reliable layers, but they still mature at their own pace. Keep an eye on them, but they should catch up.

I've been told that a brooder *must* have a red flood-style heat bulb, but I can't find any solid evidence to support this. My understanding is that chicks just need a consistent heat sourcepreferably something like a heat plate or ceramic heat emitter that provides warmth without 24/7 light.

Re: Balancing Oats in Layer Feed, How Much Is Too Much?
Whole oats are great for feather health and digestion, but I'd be careful not to exceed 20% of the total feed, especially with a high-protein pellet. Too much can lead to deficiencies over time.
