What Garden Treats Do Your Chickens Love?
Hi everyone,
I’m experimenting with feeding my hens scraps from the garden.
So far, they’ve loved watermelon, cantaloupe, tomato skins, and greens.
But there are some things they won’t touch, like yellow squash and carrot tops.
Do your hens have any favorite garden treats I haven’t tried yet?
I’ve got string beans, lima beans, and carrots coming in soon.
Would love to hear what works for your flock.
Thanks in advance for the tips!

My hens go crazy for zucchini! I slice it open to expose the seeds, and they devour it.

Try giving them some overripe cucumbers.
Mine love pecking out the soft insides.

One day I'd love a house in the country, with some chickens, dogs and kids.

My chickens love corn on the cob—raw or cooked. They’ll strip it clean!HatcheryHelper wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 8:13 am Hi everyone,

They might enjoy Swiss chard if you have any. Mine prefer it over kale and lettuce.

Beet greens are a big hit with my flock. If you have any, give them a try!

Ive heard that some herbs like parsley and basil are great for hens, but mine just trample them.

Carrot tops are hit or miss for my flock too, but they devour grated carrots. Maybe try that?

I've noticed my hens enjoy scratching at overripe tomatoes more than eating them. It's more of a fun activity!
People who count their chickens before they are hatched act very wisely because chickens run about so absurdly that it's impossible to count them accurately.

My flock loves beet greens and the occasional strawberry. Just don't overdo the fruit-it's sugary!
