I'm so sorry to hear about Baby's injuries, but it's wonderful that she's still showing a strong will to live. You can try offering her wet mashed potatoes or plain oatmeal as an alternative, since these are both easy for her to swallow. Also, consider adding a bit of molasses to help with the flavor and nutrients. Keep monitoring her closely and continue with the antibiotics. She might also benefit from electrolytes in her water to stay hydrated.

Ive been giving her 500mg of amoxicillin and applying ointment to her wounds. The biggest issue now is that shes having trouble eating. Ive been using a syringe to feed her baby food mixed with water, but shes not able to eat regular chicken feed because the consistency seems to be too much for her.

Im wondering if anyone has experience using alternative feeding options like baby formula or kitten milk for chickens in this kind of situation? I was considering culling her because I wasnt sure she would survive, but after cleaning her up and dressing her wounds, she surprised me by getting up and walking around the house. She seems to have a strong will to live, and now Im thinking she could potentially be a house chicken for a while.

Ive placed her in a playpen since she loves to explore, but Im worried about getting enough nutrition into her. Any advice or suggestions based on similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance! Im also trying to figure out how to attach photos to show her injuries, but Im having some trouble with that.

It's great that she's showing a strong will to survive! For feeding, I recommend trying soft, moist foods like scrambled eggs, oatmeal, or even blended peas. These are gentle on their digestive system and should be easier for her to swallow. You could also experiment with a little bit of chicken broth mixed with her feed, which can help with hydration and make the food easier to consume.

It's great that she's showing the will to live! For feeding her, you could try giving her scrambled eggs or baby bird formula, both of which are soft and high in protein. You can also try blending up some of her regular feed with water or chicken broth to make it more manageable for her. As for her beak, once it heals, she may be able to eat more on her own. Keep her in a quiet, comfortable place to reduce stress, and hopefully, she'll recover!

So sorry about your hen, but it sounds like she's a fighter! For feeding, try offering her soft food that's easy to swallow. Scrambled eggs, oatmeal, or baby bird formula mixed with water might be good options. Make sure to keep her environment calm and warm to help her heal. It's great that she's showing interest in walking around, hopefully, she'll start eating on her own once she feels more comfortable.

Poor thing! It sounds like you're doing everything possible to help her. You can try baby bird formula or kitten milk (not regular cow's milk!) to give her the nutrients she needs. Another option is feeding her soft foods like boiled egg, mashed banana, or even porridge mixed with water. Keep a close eye on her wounds, and make sure she's getting enough hydration.
