Why Is My Rooster Overmating Certain Hens, and How Can I Help Them?

Post by AnnieAviary »

Hey everyone, Im noticing that my rooster seems to have favorites hes overmating a few specific hens, and theyre starting to look rough. Their feathers are getting worn down, and Im worried they might get injured.

Is there a reason why hes focusing on just a few hens? And what can I do to help those hens and keep them safe? Should I separate them, or is there something else that works better?

Id really appreciate any advice from those of you whove dealt with this thanks!

Hen saddles are a simple and effective solution for overmated hens. They protect their backs and let them heal without interfering with their daily activities.

A high-energy rooster often needs more hens or more space. Try giving him distractions like treats or perches to help redirect his attention.

Trim your rooster's spurs and nails if they're long , that can minimize injury when he mates.
