I've heard of this happening before! A friend of mine had a similar issue when she bought pine shavings from a sawmill. Turns out, they had wood preservatives on them, which caused severe respiratory distress in her flock.

Try adding electrolytes and vitamins to their water while they recover. Respiratory issues can weaken their immune system, and extra support might help them fight off whatever is making them sick.

If the symptoms started after introducing the shavings, I'd suggest removing them completely and switching to a different bedding material, like straw or hemp, to see if their condition improves.

Not all pine shavings are bad, but if they were freshly cut, they might still have a lot of sap and natural chemicals in them. That could definitely be irritating your flock.
