Why Are My Hens Laying Long, Narrow Eggs?
Lately, a few of my hens have been laying eggs that are longer and more narrow than usual. The eggs seem healthy otherwise, but Im wondering if this shape is normal or if it could point to a health issue, nutritional imbalance, or something else. Has anyone else seen this in their flock? Should I be concerned?

I'd check for signs of respiratory issues, believe it or not! Reproductive health and respiratory health are connected, and sometimes odd egg shapes can be an early indicator. If the hen seems totally healthy otherwise , no wheezing, sneezing, or lethargy , it's probably just a fluke or her unique shape. Keep an eye on consistency and shell strength, and make sure they've got balanced feed and calcium access.

Sometimes it's genetic , some hens just lay differently shaped eggs. If the hen's healthy and the shell's strong, I wouldn't worry.

One of my Olive Eggers lays long, skinny eggs all the time , just her normal shape! No health issues, just a quirk.
Sharing tips, stories, and laughs from my little backyard farm!

Watch for consistency. An occasional odd egg is normal, but if it keeps happening with weak shells, you might need to adjust their diet.

If they're new layers or coming off a molt, weird shapes like this can happen. It usually sorts itself out pretty quickly.
