If the flies are out of control, you might want to look into beneficial nematodes. They're microscopic organisms that naturally kill fly larvae in the soil.

A simple fix is to rake out the top layer of dirt more frequently. I do mine every 3–4 days instead of once a week, and it helps keep things fresher.

I had success with Sweet PDZ, which is a stall refresher used for horses. It absorbs moisture and neutralizes ammonia. Safe for chickens, too!

Have you tried apple cider vinegar in their water? It helps with digestion, which can make their poop a little less smelly. Just a tablespoon per gallon is enough.
