Switching Feed for Better Egg Production? Advice Needed!

Post by GardenGuru42 »

Hey everyone!

Right now, we have an all-hen flock, but weve been feeding Purina Flock Raiser crumble with supplemental oyster shell since we originally had a rooster.

Lately, we havent been getting any eggs at all! Three of our hens are under a year old, so I expected them to still be ramping up, but even before this, egg production was super slow. Our older hens (2.5 years old) were only laying a handful of eggs per month.

I recently saw some people mentioning that they had issues with Purina feed and low egg production. Im thinking about switching to Nutrena but not sure whether to stick with an all-flock feed or move to a layer feed.

Has anyone switched feed and seen improvements?

Would love to hear what has worked for you!

I had the same issue with Purina. I switched to Nutrena Layer Crumbles, and it made a noticeable difference in egg production after just a couple of weeks. The change really seemed to help!

You might want to try the Nutrena Layer Pellets if your hens are over 18 weeks old. It can really help boost egg production. I made the switch and saw improvements quickly!

I've had great success with Nutrena, but I switched to Layer Feed because I had mostly mature hens. You might want to see how your younger hens do with the layer feed, though!

I've had the best results with Layer Pellets from Nutrena. I made the switch after struggling with low egg production and noticed a big boost in egg numbers within a month.

You might want to consider a combination of All-Flock and oyster shell until your younger hens are laying more consistently. It'll ensure they all get the right nutrients without causing imbalances.

I had a similar issue with Purina. Switched to Nutrena All-Flock and supplemented with oyster shell. It took a few weeks, but my girls started laying more consistently.

I use Nutrena for my flock and went with Layer Feed from the start. The egg production did improve after about 2 weeks, and I've had fewer issues with soft eggs as well.

I have a mixed-age flock and use All-Flock. I offer calcium separately, and it's been working well for us. You could also try it and see if it helps with egg production!

I switched to Nutrena Layer Pellets, and I swear my hens started laying more eggs within the first two weeks. It might be worth a try if you want to boost production!
