How Long Does It Take for Chickens to Reach Full Size?

Im new to raising chickens and have a question about growth stages. My chickens are growing really fast, and Im excited to see them develop, but Im curious about when they will reach their full size. Id love to know at what age they stop growing and how much longer theyll be in their baby stage.

Typically, chickens will reach their full size by around 6 months, but they don't stop developing entirely until 8 months, especially in terms of feathering. For larger breeds, it could be closer to 8 months. Don't be surprised if they still seem a little lanky for the first few months!

The size of your birds at 6 months should be pretty close to their full adult size. My chickens were about 90% grown by 5 months, but I didn't notice them filling out fully until 7 months. The body shape is more defined at that point, but they stop growing so rapidly after 6 months. The combs and wattles also continue to develop until they're about 7 months.
