Why is My Hen Laying Tiny Eggs After Winter?

Post by FeatheredFriend »

One of my hens kept laying eggs throughout the winter, while the others gradually stopped. Recently, though, one of the other hens has started laying again after a break and has laid three eggs so far. The strange thing is that these eggs are all quite small, much smaller than the usual eggs she laid before.

I'm wondering if I should be concerned if this continues. I know hens can lay smaller eggs from time to time, but it feels odd for it to happen so consistently.

Should I be worried or is this just something normal for the time of year?

It could be due to the seasonal change or the hen's body readjusting after her winter break. As long as there are no other symptoms like lethargy, loss of appetite, or changes in behavior, I wouldn't worry. If the tiny eggs continue for a while or if you notice any other issues, you might want to take her to the vet.

I had a hen lay tiny eggs for a while after winter, and it eventually passed. It's most likely due to the seasonal shift and her body readjusting. Keep track of how many tiny eggs she lays and monitor her health, but I'd say it's probably just a temporary phase.

I've had the same thing happen with my hens after winter. They sometimes start laying smaller eggs, especially when their body is getting back into egg-laying mode. Keep an eye on her for a few more weeks, but I wouldn't worry unless the eggs stay small for an extended period or there are other issues.

I've had similar issues in the past when the weather changes. Sometimes the hens lay smaller eggs as they get back into the rhythm of laying. This might be due to their bodies adjusting to the longer days. Keep an eye on them, but unless other health issues arise, it's usually not a major concern.

I've dealt with this before. After my hens took a winter break, they started laying smaller eggs when they came back into their cycle. I wouldn't worry unless the problem continues for a long time, but if you're concerned, a quick visit to the vet could help rule out any issues.

It's possible that the hen's body is just adjusting after the winter break. Smaller eggs can happen when they start laying again, and it might take a little time for their systems to regulate. If it persists or you see other signs of health problems, I would suggest talking to a vet.

Smaller eggs are pretty common when hens start laying again after a break. They might not have fully adjusted to the new season or may just be warming up to full egg production. I wouldn't stress about it unless the problem continues for weeks.

It sounds like your hen is just adjusting to the change in season. The first few eggs after a break are often smaller. Keep a close eye on her, but I wouldn't worry unless the tiny eggs persist or she starts showing signs of health issues.
